Your Favorite Survivor Tumor Awareness

A tumor is an abnormal growth of cells that forms a mass or lump in the body. Tumors can be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous).

Types of Tumors

  1. Benign Tumors – These do not spread to other parts of the body and usually do not pose a serious health risk. Examples include lipomas (fat cell growths) and fibroids (growths in the uterus).
  2. Malignant Tumors (Cancerous) – These grow aggressively, invade surrounding tissues, and can spread to other parts of the body (metastasis).
  3. Pre-Cancerous Tumors – These are not yet cancerous but have the potential to become malignant over time.

Common Causes and Risk Factors

  • Genetic mutations
  • Exposure to carcinogens (e.g., tobacco, radiation, chemicals)
  • Chronic inflammation
  • Viral infections (e.g., HPV, Hepatitis B)
  • Hormonal imbalances

Symptoms of Tumors

  • Unexplained lumps or swelling
  • Pain or discomfort in a specific area
  • Unintended weight loss
  • Fatigue
  • Neurological symptoms (for brain tumors)

Diagnosis and Treatment

Doctors diagnose tumors through imaging tests (MRI, CT scans), biopsies, and blood tests. Treatments vary depending on the type of tumor and may include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, or targeted therapies.
